With 300 beautiful, creative and inspiring designs Design Portfolio is an excellent curation of world-class designers at their very best. Design Portfolio even includes 5 essays! Essays you ask? Well yeah sort of. These aren’t exactly essays, in fact a scholar would rofl at such a statement, rather 5 double paged spreads with 5 designers talking about the importance of good portfolio design. Like we needed any convincing. All these essays are a nice read but are really nothing more than that, one wont expect much critical insight from there and are really just a nice way to break up the real meat of the title which is of course showcasing beautiful designs. In fact it becomes immediately clear the intent of the Welsh of these essays as he scatters them loosely throughout.
The images are just amazing and as a source of inspiration it is hard to beat. However the title only achieves this, and I am sure many would be content with just that. For those who seek profound insight and knowledge of not how to just retrofit/transfer these designs but how to develop a creative process to design a range of mixed media in a successful way this title wont get you too far. Did I say mixed media? Yes, you will find a number of different designs from logos, brochures, invitations, packaging and business cards.
As a coffee table book it is a must have but as anything else well it’s just another portfolio design book with the latest trends; but that’s not a bad thing!
