General Description
The challenge calls for designs for a future insulin delivery device, seeking to build on the user experience and technology advances of the past 30 years to develop even more innovative, cost-effective, and scalable ways to deliver insulin treatment to people living with diabetes.
Submission Requirements Accessibility – Usable by a broad population, including the young or old, people with strong or weak hands, or others with impaired hand use or vision. Appropriateness – Easy to integrate into daily life, while being robust and of high-quality. Device should be portable and aesthetically pleasing in terms of form. It has to be recognizable as an injection device, while not appearing overtly medical. Functionality – Meets functional requirements as a medical tool. Devices should enable accuracy, functionality for extended periods without electricity, and ability to store more than one dose per disposable device. Prizes 10 winning submissions will be awarded $5,000 each
Judging Criteria All eligible Submissions will be judged by a panel of judges determined by Sponsor to have the required knowledge and experience to apply the judging criteria. Judging will be based and scored on the following judging criteria and stated point availability for each criterion: (i) Ability of the proposed concept to be usable by a broad population with varied needs, integrated seamlessly as a lifestyle accessory by its users, and meet functional requirements as a medical device (up to 50 points); (ii) Ability of the proposed concept to enable patients and their caregivers to self-administer regular injections of insulin to manage their disease in a way that is differentiated from other solutions in the marketplace (up to 25 points); (iii) Ability of the proposed concept to embody ingenuity in design while improving the quality of life and experience of its users (up to 25 points).
Eligibility Requirements Ignite, the Diabetes Ideas Challenge, a Sanofi US concept challenge (“Competition” or “Contest”) is open to all individuals over the age of 18 at the time of entry, internationally. RESIDENTS OF CUBA, IRAN, SYRIA, NORTH KOREA, SUDAN, MYANMAR, OR OTHER INDIVIDUALS RESTRICTED BY U.S. EXPORT CONTROLS AND SANCTIONS ARE NOT ELIGIBLE TO ENTER. CONTEST IS VOID IN ANY OTHER NATION, STATE OR PROVINCE WHERE PROHIBITED OR RESTRICTED BY U.S. OR LOCAL LAW.
Terms and Conditions Concept entries are by electronic submissions only. Participants will submit their concepts via the Challenge website for evaluation by an independent panel of judges.
Participant acknowledges and agrees that as a result of independent efforts, Sanofi may have developed or may in the future develop products, technologies, or other information similar to that submitted by the Participant. Since the concepts will be based on the Sanofi criteria, multiple, different submissions may contain similar features and design.
A Participant agrees at concept submission that entered concepts may be publicly displayed on the Challenge website or in print materials, along with Participant’s name. The Participant shall retain all intellectual property (IP) related to their concept, while granting Sanofi the right to publish the concept at their discretion in relation to the Challenge promotion.
