• Full-time, permanent position with 3 months trial/probation. • Working hours 9-5, Monday to Friday, one hour lunch break. • Convenient South Jakarta location. • Salary negotiable depending on experience and skills.
DESIGN AND PRODUCT DEVELOPMENT TASKS: • Manage all client enquiries for product development • Write clear design briefs to confirm client requests • If necessary, meeting with clients to discuss brief and obtain new materials • Undertake ideation and sketching phase • Additionally, translate sketches by artist, XSProject founder Ann Wizer into workable designs • Draft 1:1 Scale patterns on paper / cardboard • Communicate design details effectively to product development sewer • Oversee product development and supervise product development sewer 3 days per week • Creating product development logs (as above) by calculate product development costs and accounting for material usage and time spent • Liaise with photographer to obtain professional photographs of products and design process to present to clients, or take yourself if professional is not available • Work together in consultation with client to create final solution. • Upon introduction of new products, brief all sewers on changes and techniques. • First run, make corrections to any mistakes by outsource (to maintain quality of prototype) • Educate quality control staff on QC procedures for new products. • Make sure that for every product, there is at least one sample marked as “master” (that is, not for sale, but for future manufacture of the item) • Talk to clients / customers / Distributors and obtain feedback on products. • Constant evaluation of existing product range – how can products be improved?
NON-DESIGN TASKS: • Customer liaison: – Check and reply to emails daily, cc important communications to management. – Public speaking about XSProject mission and innovative design – Prepare PowerPoint slides and presentation materials for such events – Occasional customer service for walk-in customers – Talk to clients / customers / Distributors and obtain feedback on products. • Calculate COGS (Cost of Goods Sold) by: – Measuring and recording usage of all materials and enter into COGS spreadsheet – Determine price paid per piece to outsource for manufacturing, based on past models and in consultation with XS Production Manager and XS Accountant. – Name new products – simple and descriptive eg. “small tote bag”, “computer sleeve” – Make up codes for new products (cross check to make sure there is no duplicate) – Make intelligent decisions on pricing according to COGS framework and ideal profit margins – follow formula designed in COGS • Assemble product catalogue by: – Making sure all photographs are clear, good quality and on white background (see “Photography” below) – Arrange products according to logical “ranges” eg. “XS Bags”, “School and Office” – Enter product code, name, and write description – Weigh products and enter weight – Measure products and enter dimensions • Graphic design tasks using Adobe Photoshop, Illustrator, InDesign: – Design brochures and layouts for other marketing materials. – Design display materials such as X-banner stands. – Design new hang tags for XS products, and work with vendors to develop • Photography: – Until such time that XS hires the services of a professional photographer, take photographs of product development and production environment – Take professional photographs of products on white background – Edit photographs to professional standard “isolated on white” using the Adobe Photoshop pen tool and professional editing techniques. – Once hired, work with volunteer or professional photographers to perform photography tasks • Label Design: – Under supervision of management, design and supervise the manufacture of XSProject label in-house label designs – Working with XS clients, design and co-ordinate manufacture of custom labels • Sourcing Materials: – Working with Production Manager, source reliable and good quality billboard supplies – Working with Production Manager, source environmentally-friendly fabric lining materials • Web Design Updates: – Provide materials to web designer such as pictures and content.
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS: • Undergraduate degree (S1) in Design (Product Design preferred, but also accepting applicants from graphic, fashion, and interior). • Good sketching ability and able to draft patterns by hand. • Fluent in Adobe CS3 – Photoshop, Illustrator, InDesign. • Able to use MS Word, MS Excel and MS PowerPoint. • Ability to solve design problems elegantly and creatively. • Ability to work efficiently with client-driven timelines. • Ability to take the initiative on projects with client-driven requirements. • Able to communicate ideas effectively both visually, and in writing. • Fluent in English and Indonesian.
DESIRABLE: • 2 years experience designing bags and accessories (but, if you are a fresh graduate and you think you have got what it takes, we’ll accept your application!) • Passionate to work in a small, dynamic, not-for-profit organisation. • Strong knowledge of ‘sustainable design’. • Willingness to take on challenges, work hard and learn from experience. • Friendly and able to work in a small team.
