The Aim The concept BBQ design ‘Hibachi’ fuses traditional Japanese eating rituals with modern Australian styling. Australian’s love attending Japanese/Korean sit down BBQ’s because of the unique ritual of a collaborative and social cooking experience. Hibachi aims to make this transition from a very foreign restaurant event to an easily accessible and socially acceptable practice.
Socialise Hibachi aims to re-ignite family meal socialising. In a world where kids would rather have dinner in front of the TV than have dinner with their family, Hibachi puts a unique twist to cooking. That is, the design sells the cooking experience to children. This includes learning how to cook and the enticing smells and beauty of fine food. Not to mention it gives Dad some company when cooking instead of standing by himself with no-one to talk to.
Choice Hibachi works in a variety of environments, indoor and out, offering solutions such as storage, drink bar, food preparation and waste disposal in an all-in-one unit.
Exhibited at Design Ex 2008 as part of the Electrolux stand.
